Governor Geoffrey Francis Archer opens Makerere's first Permanent Building

Sir Geoffrey Francis Archer was appointed Governor of Uganda in 1923. He took an interest in education of the native people, asking for advice on the curriculum, buildings, organization and so on, although he was limited in what he could achieve by shortage of funds. [1]

On 13th December 1923, he laid the foundation stone for the first permanent buidling in Makerere University. This building still stands and currently houses the School of EducationCollege of Education and External Studies (CEES).
