A picture of University Hall taken in the early 1960s at Makerere University, Kampala

University Hall (UH) is a service oriented unit for students and staff. It was opened as a Hall of residence in July 1957. It is among the oldest halls on campus. The first residents were second year students who were transferred from (Northcote Hall by then) now Nsibirwa Hall: The original structure of the Building was of rectangular form.

During the 1960/61 the original plan was alternated and extended to the following blocks: Q - were extended and more rooms were added C - from 9 rooms to 23 rooms each block. Blocks S and A originally had parking spaces below them, but the alternation made during that time allowed for eight rooms to be added i.e. S 13, S 14, S 15, S 16, and A 13, A14, A 15, and A 16 respectively.

Brief Culture

It’s a goat land community. The strength of a chain depends on its flexibility. ”The goats” in goat land have their very unique points of strength exemplified in many ways. They possess an unequalled standard of cleanliness; a rare gentleness; a humbling understanding of issues as well as enviable sportsmanship qualities.
