On 29th January 1993, the President of the Republic of Uganda and Chancellor of Makerere University H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Laws upon H.E. Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere in recognition of his excellent leadership over the Nation of Tanzania.
Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere (13 April 1922 – 14 October 1999) served as the first President of Tanzania and previously Tanganyika, from the country’s founding in 1961 until his retirement in 1985. He graduated from Makerere University in 1947 with a Diploma in Education.
