The Department of Food Science and Technology started in 1989 with a mandate to spearhead training of professionals for the food sector. Since its inception, the Department has produced over 480 graduates, who are successfull employed in the Foods and Beverages Industry, Government and Private organs, Pharmaceuticals, Academic institutions and also as private entrepreneurs.
To mark its twentieth anniversary, the Department organised a week-long celebration running from 26th September to 2nd October 2009 which included; a Fundraising walk on 26th September, an Exhibition running 30th September to 2nd October, a Public dialogue from 30th September to 1st October and a launch of the Food Technology and Business Incubation Centre (FTBIC) by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda on 2nd October 2009.
