On 16th February 2010, The Deputy US Trade Representative of President Obama's Administration, Ambassador Demetrios J. Marantis delivered a Public Lecture on the US-Africa Trade and Invenstment in the 21st Century to Staff and Students gathered in the Food Science and Technology Conference Hall.

He noted that opportunities created by the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) had doubled U.S.-sub-Saharan African trade over the last eight years, a feat he hoped would improve even further with the establishment a regional American trade competitiveness hub in Nairobi ; funded by USAID.

Prof. Ddumba-Sentamu, Dean, Faculty of Economics and Management chaired the Question and Answer session and Prof. Ikoja-Odongo represented the Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba.
