On 12th December 2010, Makerere University honoured two of Africa’s most illustrious leaders; His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and His Excellency Mzee Rashid Mfaume Kawawa with Honorary Doctorates of Laws.

H.E. President Museveni was awarded in respect of his outstanding achievements and exceptional contribution to the advancement of humanity; in particular his commitment to Agricultural modernisation and value addition, Education, Science, Technology, Innovative leadership and Women Empowerment.

H.E. Mzee Kawawa was awarded posthumously; as he unexpectedly passed away on 31st December 2009, in respect of his extraordinary contribution to the advancement of the human race, particularly his commitment to public service. The award was received by Ms. Rehema Kawawa on behalf of her late Father.

The President was accompanied by the First Lady Hon. Janet Museveni. Also present at the function were the Right Honourable Prime Minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, The Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Namirembe Bitamazire, Members of the Judicature, Parliament, and Heads of Government as well as Private entities.
