HRH Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII arrives at Makerere College during his visit to Uganda and Kenya in 1928

Prince Edward, The Prince of Wales made a trip to Kenya and Uganda in 1928 as part of his tour of the British Empire. While in Uganda, he visited Makerere College where he was met on arrival by the second Principal of Makerere College (1924-1939) Mr.  Douglas G. Tomblings.

The Prince of Wales later became King Edward VIII of England after the death of his father King George V in early 1936 but voluntarily renounced his throne after only 326 days. He was succeeded by his younger brother Prince Albert, thereafter King George VI.
