The Makerere Africa Lecture Series was successfully re-launched by Hon. Prof. Peter Anyang'Nyong'o on 2nd December 2011, more than 40 years after Idi Amin's overthrow of Government on 25th January 1971 botched the initial attempt.
Hon. Prof. Peter Anyang'Nyong'o, MP and Minister of Medical Services, Republic of Kenya, and one of the original trio; the other two being Joshua Baitwa Mugyenyi and Daudi Mulabya Taliwaku, who conceived the idea and convinced then Principal Y.K. Lule to fund the series.
Prof. Anyang'Nyong'o at the re-birth made a presentation on "Ending the Servitude of Life Givers: the Liberation of East African Women since Nyerere's Equality Call." Dr. Thelma Awori – Honorary Consul General of Liberia in Uganda discussed the lecture.
The lecture held on 2nd December 2011 was organised by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) and presided over by Rt. Hon. Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, Former Prime Minister the Republic of Uganda and first non-Head-of-State Chancellor of Makerere University.
