His Excellency Mwai Kibaki, President of The Republic of Kenya was on 24th January 2012 awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by Makerere University, in recognition of his distinguished and outstanding contribution to Political, Social and Economic reforms at the national, regional and international levels. This special ceremony was held as part of the 62nd Graduation Ceremony of Makerere University.
President Mwai Kibaki who graduated from Makerere University in 1955 with a First Class Bachelor of Arts degree was also recognized for his academic contribution as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Economics from 1958 to 1960.
The Honorary award ceremony was attended by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Abdirahin Haithar Abdi, Speaker of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community (EAC) Affairs, Hon. Eriya Kategaya, Education Minister, Hon. Jessica Alupo, Diplomats, Members of Council, Management and Staff of Makerere University, among others.
