The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Hon. Amama Mbabazi opened the Stakeholders conference at Makerere University on 3rd August 2012, with a call to more output from universities. The Conference was held under the theme "Leadership towards Africa's Transformation in the 21st Century"
The Conference also featured remarks from the Chairperson Makerere Council Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem, a presentation from the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba on Makerere University's Strategy in the 21st Century and Partnerships Contribution towards Institutional Development as presented by Prof. Lillian Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs.
Institutional Development Partners represented by Ms. Christine Johansson, Sida Country Director and Dr. Omotade Akin Aina, the Carnegie Corporation of New York's Program Director, Higher Education and Libraries in Africa then made their contributions. Prof. Kisamba Mugerwa, Chair, National Planning Authority (NPA) then made a presentation on Uganda's Focus for Human Capital Development.
The afternoon session witnessed Prof. Samuel Kyamanywa, Ag. Principal, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) present on Agricultural Research's contribution towards transforming livelihoods and thereafter Prof. Nelson Sewankambo, Principal, College of Health Sciences (CHS) shared on the Advances in Health Research, and Prof. Mahmood Mamdani, Director, Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) on Governance and Policy in National Transformation.
